A trio of buildings (home, studio, and carport pavilion) form a family retreat, halfway between an urban oasis and a working farm, where the "spaces between" are as considered as the structures themselves. Design decisions were guided by a priority for experiential living, reflecting the owners love of learning, creating, and wellness.
For the homeowners, this project is a realization of a shared dream to build a “forever” home together, a family retreat halfway between an urban oasis and a working farm.
Buildings are a backdrop for activities and daily rituals, the spaces between are as important as the buildings.
Priority placed on experiential living, reflecting the owners love of learning, creating, and wellness. The Studio complements the house as a loosely programmed creative space for photography, yoga, woodworking, music & dance performance, guests, work & exercise.
Landscape permaculture, orchard, pond and gardens to grow food, rainwater collection and solar to capture and put to work the water and energy available on the site. Outdoor rooms for gathering, growing, playing, learning, meditating are equally important as indoor rooms for gathering, cooking, sleeping, reading, creating.
