We were asked to make an addition to a private lodge in the Piney Woods of East Texas. The addition adds a large kitchen building to the West of the main lodge and wraps the two structures with a porch. Along the south face of the existing lodge this new porch is screened. As it continues around the new kitchen it becomes an open porch, culminating in an octagonal bay which rotates around a large stone chimney mass. The kitchen is a tall open space. Two exposed built-up trusses support the hipped roof and the vaulted ceiling. Major materials are galvalume roofing, West Texas limestone veneer, sandstone floors, pine logs harvested on site and cypress decking. |
